SAHMRI (South Australian Health Medical Research Institute) is South Australia’s flagship independent not-for-profit health and medical research institute. ​

Located in Adelaide BioMed City, the Institute has 4 research themes: Aboriginal Health Equity, Lifelong Health, Precision Medicine and Women and Kids. Within these themes, there are 22 current research programs. SAHMRI also houses 3 national registries – Registry of Senior Australians (ROSA), Australian Orthopaedic Association, National Joint Replacement Registry and ANZ Dialysis and Transplant Registry. In 2019-2021, 65% of SAHMRI publications were cited (over 1750 publications).​

SAHMRI is also leading The Australian Bragg Centre for Proton Therapy and Research that sits within Adelaide BioMed City – a nationally significant initiative that will be home to a Radiance 330 proton beam therapy system. This will be the first proton therapy centre in Australia and will treat around 800 patients a year.​
